Fluoride & preventive care in Toronto
Stopping decay early.
Personalised care to prevent cavities and to manage tooth decay as early as possible, often before a filling is needed.

Two tools we use
Fluoride therapy strengthens enamel and helps remineralise early areas of decay before a cavity forms. It is painted on in seconds.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a minimally invasive treatment that can help stop active tooth decay when it is appropriate. The silver targets the bacteria that cause decay; the fluoride supports remineralisation and strengthens the affected tooth structure.
It darkens what it treats.
SDF permanently darkens the decayed areas it treats. On a back tooth that rarely matters; on a front tooth it might.
Suitability and how it will look are discussed with you before treatment, and nothing is applied until you have decided.

How it runs
At your exam we look at where decay is starting and why.
Fluoride, SDF, a filling, or just keeping an eye on it. We explain each.
Both are painted on in a few minutes, with no drilling or needles.
We check the area at your next visit to confirm it has stopped.
Worth asking
Anything else, ask us. Suitability for any treatment is confirmed at a clinical assessment.
Is SDF a replacement for a filling?
Sometimes, sometimes not. It can stop decay, but it does not rebuild a missing piece of tooth. We'll tell you which you need.
Is fluoride safe?
Professionally applied fluoride is used in small, controlled amounts and is a long-established way to prevent decay.
